Every car manufacturer has inherent quirks or likely technical faults associated with each model of vehicle that they produce. These rarely hinder your enjoyment of owning the vehicle but are worth bearing in mind both when selecting your next car and maintaining your current one. Jaguar is no different.

This is why it is so essential to bring your car to a specialist Jaguar technician for routine servicing. A Jaguar specialist knows the ins and outs of each Jaguar model. They know the technical issues your vehicle can experience. Because of this, Jaguar specialists can work with you to help avoid or prevent part failure, meaning you make the most out of every mile that you drive.

In this article, we’ll be looking at some of the most common technical issues that different models of Jaguar can face. We’ll be covering the most common Jaguar models, both new and old, including Jaguar X Type, Jaguar S Type, Jaguar XF, Jaguar XJ, Jaguar XJS, and Jaguar F Type.

Jaguar X Type

The Jaguar X Type is known to suffer with the following problems:

Automatic Gearbox

The X Type can struggle with acceleration problems and gear selector failure. It is the leading complaint for drivers of the X Type.

Suspension

This is an issue that both X Type and XF models can experience. The suspension issues faced by drivers are caused by wear and tear with the rear suspension tending to fail before the front suspension. Hearing a knocking noise is one of the first signs of this problem.

Cooling Fan Module

The cooling module is prone to failure and these technical issues usually occur on older models manufactured before 2003. It is common for the cooling fan to stop without warning.

Inaccurate Fuel Gauge

Another common technical issue for the X Type is the fuel gauge only showing a tank that is three-quarters full when, in fact, the engine is completely full.

Jaguar S Type

Technical issues common to the Jaguar S Type are as follows:

Ignition Coils

The ignition coils commonly fail in S Type engines. Ignition coil failure leads to misfiring and rough idling, reducing overall performance.

Central Locking System

The central locking system can become faulty in S Type models. Often this issue leads to the replacement of the door locks.

Engine Management Lights

The lambda sensor can develop issues which prevents the engine management light (check engine light) from displaying on the dash.

Water Leaks

An issue specific to the S Type is water leaks, namely in the footwells and the trunk. Faulty door seals are usually the cause of this.

Jaguar XF

The Jaguar XF only has two common faults:

Cracked Alloy Wheels

Faulty wheels that are prone to cracking is a common issue in XF models.

Failure of Windshield Wipers

Jaguar XF models usually go through windshield wiper blades much more quickly than other cars.

Jaguar XJ

The Jaguar XJ also has two common faults which drivers need to be aware of:

DSC Warning Light

The XJ can develop a fault ABS sensor which can cause the DSC warning light to flash. Both the XJ and the XJS can experience this problem.

DPF Warning Light

The DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) warning light can illuminate. The likelihood of this light illuminating is increased if the XJ is used for short journeys.

Jaguar XJS

There are several technical issues faced by the XJS model:

Oil Leaks

Most Jaguar XJS drivers complain about oil leaks. Oil leaks have plagued the XJS leading to a 2012/2013 model recall.

Water Leaks

The A/C of XJS models can get blocked, which causes water to leak into the footwells.

Leaky Windshield

The windshield of XJS models are finicky, meaning that leaks become likely, particularly after a newly installed windshield.

Corrosion

Corrosion is never good in any car. The XJS uses steel rivets throughout its construction, which can lead to corrosion problems.

F Type

The Jaguar F Type is a highly reliable Jaguar Model. There is one key issue which drivers should know:

Seat Belt Sensors

The F Type has had issues with the seat belt sensors. In 2014, this led to a recall due to the adverse effects upon airbag inflation.
